The ideal candidate will possess the experience, vision, commitment, and integrity to successfully support the strategic goals of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T). This position provides SSO support to a DHS S&T laboratory facility, coordinating visits and clearance requests, performing a range of SSO duties such as oversight of all security operations, preparation and implementation of security SOPs, escorting visitors, verifying clearances, and preparing and coordinating meetings as necessary. This position is onsite in New York, NY or offsite with travel.

In this role you will be expected to:

  • Provide and develop annual security training.
  • Coordinate visits and clearance requests for laboratory personnel and visitors.
  • Edit security standard operating procedures (SOP) as required.
  • Conduct analytic assessments of research plans and progress reports.
  • Perform Special Security Officer (SSO) duties to include:
    • Serving as access control manager and Operations Security (OPSEC) control manager.
    • Verifying clearances for all OPSEC equipment.
    • Coordinating all necessary security preparations for meetings and visits.
    • Drafting and sending visitor requests for employee visits.
    • Preparing security reports to SSO.
    • Escorting visitors.
    • Performing general security procedures such as safe and lock maintenance, confirming classification markings for classified documents, burning and scanning CDs, and destruction of all classified materials.
    • Assisting SSO in scheduling and conducting SCI in docs.
    • Preparing and maintaining courier cards and records.
    • In/out processing of employees for DHS suitability.
    • Serving as property manager.
    • Preparing appropriate forms for IT systems of various classifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 18 years of relevant experience.
  • Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Applicants selected must have Top Security clearance with ability to obtain DHS access to Secret Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) and DHS Suitability.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Operational, programmatic, or management experience supporting DoD and/or DHS components (e.g., TSA, CBP, FPS, NPPD, DNDO, USCG, ICE).
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team-oriented environment, demonstrate teamwork and initiative, and function productively in the face of new assignments and the re-prioritization of existing assignments.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of change, risk, and resource management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting government SSOs or performing SSO duties.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Top Security Clearance with DHS access to Secret Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) and DHS Suitability.
