The ideal candidate will possess the experience, vision, commitment, and integrity to successfully support the strategic goals of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T). This position leverages extensive scientific subject matter expertise to provide technical input to assist engineering discussion and decisions on large-scale biological decontamination efforts, including engagement with government and industry partners to establish best use technologies and policy. This is a remote/offsite position.

In this role you will be expected to:

  • Serve as a scientific SME supporting engineering decisions regarding the application and appropriateness of biological decontamination technologies and development of interagency biosafety standards and decontamination policy.
  • Leverage scientific expertise to provide technical input on procurement planning, and assistance with inter-agency engagements.
  • Engage with industry partners to establish current state of the art technologies for effective large-scale biological decontamination.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and 10 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree and 18 years of relevant experience.
  • Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Ability to obtain DHS Suitability.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Operational, programmatic or management experience supporting DoD and/or DHS components (e.g., TSA, CBP, FPS, CISA, CWMD, USCG, ICE).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a high pressure, fast paced atmosphere.
  • Demonstrated experience in a biological field such as microbiology, infectious diseases or animal science, including decontamination, detection and countermeasures regarding biological agents.
  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting and/or support the development of public scientific policy.
  • Demonstrated experience in DHS or DOD acquisition strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience in interagency engagement to elicit and provide scientific input.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience writing and editing technical documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • DHS suitability.
