The ideal candidate will possess the experience, vision, commitment, and integrity to successfully support the strategic goals of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T). This role provides support to security operations at DHS facilities. The role is expected to support the Special Security Officer (SSO) across multiple domains, including policy, information security, and physical security. This position is onsite at Fort Detrick, MD or offsite with travel.
In this role you will be expected to:
Support the Special Security Officer (SSO) with ensuring that extremely sensitive National Security Information is properly stored and safe guarded.
Participate in meetings, seminars, working groups, and such to ensure safeguards for the protection of classified and sensitive but unclassified information are appropriately addressed and afforded applicable protections in all applications.
Maintain up to date records on security processing of personnel.
Process security requests for meetings and visits.
Create and maintain security guidelines and other related documentation to reflect current DHS policies.
Serve as a subject matter expert on all security policies within DHS and the federal government as a whole.
Ensure that all sensitive information is stored according to established DHS regulations.
Provide general security trainings as well as more specialized job-specific security trainings as needed.
Manage the operation of secured spaces used for the review and discussion of classified materials and topics.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience or Associate’s degree and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Top Secret-level Security Clearance with the ability to obtain DHS access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) and DHS Suitability.
Desired Qualifications:
Programmatic or management experience supporting DoD and/or DHS components (e.g., TSA, CBP, FPS, CISA, CWMD, USCG, ICE).
Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team-oriented environment, demonstrate teamwork and initiative, and function productively in the face of new assignments and the re-prioritization of existing assignments.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Experience with DHS and federal government regulations governing the handling and storage of sensitive and classified information.
Experience training law enforcement or other security personnel
Strong communication and writing skills, targeting both technical and non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated experience facilitating, documenting, and producing follow up materials for collaborative meetings.
An active Top Secret-level Security Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) and DHS Suitability.
